How to Meditate

Meditation can do your body and mind a great deal of good.  It can increase your energy, lift your spirits, help you focus, and improve your sense of well-being.

Basically what meditation is that you are focusing 100% of your energy on one particular area.  Many people who teach advanced mediation will tell you that you have to focus on nothing but if you are just starting out, you need to start out by focusing on something.

The first thing you will want to have is complete silence.  You want your mediation area as serene as possible.  So turn off the TV and the phones.  In order to work at focusing, you will need to devote your full attention with no interruptions.  Do not go into this mediation thing thinking it is just a one day thing.  You are dead wrong.

Mediation is a lifelong process that takes full commitment from you.  When you are first starting out, you need to set aside a time each day to do your mediation.  At first it is recommended that you mediate twice a day for 15 minutes each session.

Again it must be that you need time of devotoion where you will not have distractions.  You don’t want to have to worry about the phone ringing or the baby waking up from its nap.

Some people find it easier to listen to instructional tapes or CD’s during their session.  Thais may be a big help if you are just starting out in the meditation process.  You can also listen to nature or peaceful CD’s if you prefer.  After you have your CD playing, it is time to do some stretches. It is very important to stretch ahead if time because your muscles and body need to loosen up.

Now you need to start your breathing exercises.  Taking deep breathes and slowly exhaling will show your heart muscles and focus your mind.  It is recommended for beginners that you close your eyes and that a candle is lit in the room for peace and serenity.  You may get frustrate while you are going through your course of meditation.  You may ask yourself why you are breathing a lot.  Why are you focusing so hard?  And you may have other question as well.  But truest me they will all be answered in the end.  You will need to focus harder to get those negatives thoughts out of your mind.

How to Detoxify Your Body

Detoxifying your body is the process in which you cleanse your body of all the toxins and junk. If you are feeling tired all the time and you get plenty of sleep, or if you have aches and pains or digestive issues, then maybe it is time for a body cleansing.

Detoxifying has been used around the world for centuries. According to Chinese beliefs, detoxification is all about cleansing and nourishing the body from all the harmful products that are put in the body. Once all the toxins are eliminated from the body, a person will feel a sense of renewal and health.

Basically, detoxification means cleaning the blood. How this works is that all the nasty stuff in your body is removed from the blood in the liver and is then processed for elimination. Toxins are also removed through the kidneys, intestines, lungs and skin.

So, how can a detox program work for you? Well, there are several things it will to do improve how your body functions. First, it involves fasting so your organs will have a bit of a break. Second, the detox program stimulates the liver so that the toxins can be eliminated from the body. Third, detoxing improves blood circulation, and lastly, your body will be refueled with healthy nutrients.

How do you begin getting your body ready for detoxification? The first thing you need to do is stop all toxins. This means no caffeine, no alcohol, no smoking, no illegal drugs, no refined sugars and no saturated fats. This is just the beginning. You also need to reduce the use of household cleaners and bath and body products like shampoo, deodorants and toothpaste. Also, try and eliminate stress which causes stress hormones to be released into your body.

Most detoxification programs last for at least seven days, because it takes that time for the body to fully cleanse itself. You have to fast for 2-5 days on liquids only drinking plenty of water and fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Then, you follow that with a healthy diet of chicken, fish, fresh fruits and healthy vegetables.

After the detox process, you still need to keep your body healthy by eating plenty of fiber, drinking green tea, taking vitamins daily, drinking plenty of water, eliminating stress and exercising each day.

What Effects Healthy Living?

Many people strive for healthy living, but have no clue what truly affects their lifestyles.  Things that are out off their control cannot be changed, but things that are in their control should. That is why a person who strives for healthy living should be knowledgeable on what affects certain things have on them and their environment.  Healthy living involves the body, mind, and environment working intricately together.  That is why more and more companies are creating “green” products and organic food.

Organic food has been scrutinized a lot. But the facts are that organic food is truly healthy.  It contains more antioxidants and no chemicals that are highly harmful to the body.  Traditional farming uses pesticides and genetic modification both of which are truly harmful to the body.  The best way to healthy living is to start with the body and treat it right.  Going organic with food has proven to help boost immunity and longevity.  The use of harsh chemicals in traditional farming also hurts the water supply significantly, so buying water filters is a great way to eliminate chemicals in the water.

The environment also plays a big part of healthy living because what is in the environment alters the state of mind and health of the body.  A great way to help the environment around you is to start buying green products.  This means clothes, hair care, and cleaners to name a few.  Purchasing products that contain aerosol or harsh chemicals are harmful to the ozone layer and the lungs.  Recycling is a big practice among people in the 21st century and should continue.  Companies and consumers are beginning to work together.  More people are buying products that are healthy for them and were made from recycled products, eliminating more waste and pollution.

Meditation and other forms of alternative medicine also promote healthy living.  It is important to take care of the mind and spirit because doing so prevents many common ailments.  Meditation is a popular method for reducing stress and anxiety, as well as increasing awareness.  Reflexology and acupuncture focus on increasing blood and energy flow.  Yoga is also a great way to relax and is helpful with depression and anxiety.

Healthy living is not easy, but when people work together it can be achieved.  It is best to include the whole family when changing to a healthy lifestyle, as it helps improve the probability of success.

Reflexology as Alternative Medicine

Reflexology as alternative medicine is the practice of massage, pressure, or pulling on certain zones of the feet, hands, and ears. This is believed to have beneficial effects on the body to improve general health.  There is debating about how reflexology works and how effective it is.  It is believed, much like acupuncture, that it improves the “qi” or energy flow of the body.  According to this method certain areas of the feet correspond with other parts of the body, and by manipulating these areas, it can improve the flow of energy throughout the body.

A typical treatment of reflexology, lasts anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes.  Many people believe that if they are ticklish that this treatment will not be effective, this is false.  Reflexology is a massage, but also much more than that.  There is enough pressure applied to eliminate the feeling of being tickled, but not so much that it is painful. The reflexologist will focus more on the sore areas in order to help reduce pain in the foot. Many people say that it is highly relaxing and afterwards they are significantly more relaxed.

Reflexology is similar to massage therapy, but does not use oils or lotions used in massage therapy. Reflexology is based on the belief that the body has an energy flow, which if blocked, inhibits the body from being able to heal. Reflexologists use specialized charts of the feet, and sometimes hands and ears, that show which zone is associated with certain areas of the body including:

  • Brain
  • Heart
  • Lungs
  • Sinuses
  • Voice
  • Adrenal gland
  • Sciatic nerve

Many believe that reflexology can help rid the body of toxins, increase circulation, assist in weight loss, and improve health of the organs. Some reflexologists believe that ailments are caused by stress, and this method aid in stress reduction and improving the body’s ability to heal. Some conditions believed to be treated by reflexology include:

  • Ear aches
  • Hiccups
  • Hair loss
  • Heart disease
  • Liver trouble

Medical professionals have had many concerns about reflexology as an alternative medicine for serious illnesses, due to the lack of proof that it is effective. They feel that reflexology can cause patients to delay seeking help until it is too late. It is important to speak with a health care professional before seeking reflexology as an alternative or complimentary therapy.
