There is a lot of debating as to what the organic health food benefits are.  Some believe that they are just the same as regular food, and some believe that they extremely different. The fact of the matter is, there are differences between regular food and organic food, but a majority of benefits are based on people moral beliefs.  If a person does not care about chemicals, than technically it is not a benefit, though most people are highly concerned with this issue.  Some benefits organic health food offers are:

The number one organic health food benefit is the benefit to your health.  Organically grown food is grown chemical free.  Some say that even though regular food can be washed, most people don’t wash them well enough to remove all the chemicals.  It is better to be safe than sorry and go with the chemical free food. Research is also proving that organic food has more antioxidants that help ward off ailments such as cancer. These antioxidants can also be thanked for the better moods, as they boost overall health and immunity.

Many people say that they also notice a major taste difference.  They say that organically grown fruits are juicier and sweeter. Another great organic health food benefit is the fact that organic food is not genetically modified.  Genetically modified food has been a topic of debate due to the uncertainty of long term effects.

Another organic health food benefit is the benefits to the environment.  The ozone layer has been a topic of concern for many years, as well as the pollution in which people are causing.  Again the chemicals used to grow regular food are in the spotlight.  The 400 plus pesticides used in farming leech into our water supply further tainting what we ingest. The chemicals have an extremely harmful effect on the environment and those made without chemicals help to live a green and healthy lifestyle.  Many people also feel that the benefit to animals is a large benefit.  Organic milk and cheese are made with soy rather than cow’s milk, the same goes for garden burgers.

Organic health food benefits are not to be taken lightly.  People who strive to live healthier lifestyles all around will agree that organic food is the better way to go.  It is healthier for the body, mind, and environment, making it much easier to live happier and healthier.

Healthy Eating Habits for Children

Childhood is the most important part of life in the growth and development stages.  That is why it is important for children to have healthy eating habits and stick to them.  Nutritional deficiencies can lead to a million different problems throughout life and even in to adulthood.  Starting from birth children rely on their parents to provide them with the nutrients needed for healthy growth and development. Formula and breast milk provide the supplements they need, but as children grow into the solid food stages their nutrition is based on a variety of foods.

The biggest problem children have with healthy eating is that most children are picky eaters.  That is why it is important to start young and never give up.  A parent may have to introduce a certain food to their children several times before they even try it and several times after that before they actually eat it.  Consistency plays a big role in healthy eating habits for children.  Parents need to be firm and consistent with the foods they provide for their children and never give up trying.

Having regular family meals where the family eats together around the same time will encourage a child to eat like the rest of the family.  It is also important that parents do not introduce foods or drinks high in sugar before a meal, as it will ruin the child’s appetite.

Stocking the house with a variety of healthy foods will encourage a child to eat them, while keeping the junk food in the household to a minimum.  It is also important to set an example for the child, if the child sees a parent eating junk food they will also want to do the same.  So it is important for the parent to maintain healthy eating habits as well as the child.

Parents should not force a child to eat everything on the plate.  This can lead to problems such as obesity or other eating disorders.  Children may be small, but they know when they are full and parents should respect their children’s feelings.  Involving a child in the cooking process is also another great way to set healthy eating habits.

The worst thing a parent can do when setting healthy eating habits for their children is to bribe them with sweets.  This is not a good example and it throws the balance of a healthy diet.  Parents should instead reward their children with praise when they eat their meals.

Doctors and dieticians are a great resource to tap into for finding out the best way to create healthy eating habits for a child. When the child is old enough introducing multi-vitamins is also a great habit to get into to ensure the child is getting as much nutrition as possible.

Healthy Eating during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a significant part of life for both mother and child.  The child benefits or doesn’t in some cases, by what a mother eats.  The mother is also responsible for taking in enough to sustain her and the baby.  Healthy eating during pregnancy is vital to growth and development of the baby, and health for both. That is why it is important for every mother to know what is best for the health of her and her child.

While prenatal vitamins are a great source high in vitamins and minerals, it is not enough to sustain full time.  These are mostly used as a supplement to ensure that all the needs are met, but having healthy eating habits is still the major factor in getting the proper nutrients for pregnancy.

Folic acid is needed for blood and protein production and is highly stressed by doctors. Sources rich in folic acid include; dark leafy vegetables, dark yellow fruits, peas, nuts, and beans.

Protein is needed for cell growth and blood production.  Valuable sources of protein include; meat, fish, eggs, beans, peanut butter, and tofu.

Calcium promotes strong bones and teeth, and is also needed for nerve function.  Sources rich in calcium include; milk, yogurt, cheese, spinach, and salmon. Some doctors may prescribe Vitamin D pills along with prenatal vitamins is there is a severe deficiency. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, and is found in some of the same sources, as well as cereal and bread.

Iron promotes the production of red blood cells and prevents diseases such as anemia.  Foods containing high amounts of iron include; spinach, red meat, and whole grain breads and cereals. Along with assisting iron absorption, vitamin C promotes healthy teeth, gums, and bones.  Foods rich in calcium include; broccoli, tomatoes, juices, and citrus fruits.

Along with eating food rich in vitamins and minerals, the mother also wants to intake more calories and antioxidants.  Healthy eating during pregnancy also means eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong foods. The foods listed above are just a few of the wide range of healthy foods available.

Healthy eating during pregnancy is the most important thing to do when pregnant.  While fats are important to the body’s energy, too much is not healthy for the mother or baby. Moderation is key, balancing a diet is the best practice and will help reap the benefits a healthy diet offers.

Dark Chocolate Benefits

Yes it I true there are a number of dark chocolate benefits.  People just assume that any chocolate is unhealthy, and that is true in some cases.  Chocolates that are in sugar and fat are not that healthy, but dark chocolate has proven to be the exception to the rule, where about only one third of what is eaten contains saturated fat that affects cholesterol.

The truth is that chocolate is made from plants and along with it has the same benefits as the dark leafy plants.  Dark chocolate carries massive amounts of flavonoids that act as antioxidants that actually help slow the process of aging cause by free radicals, which do more harm than just to the skin. These flavonoids also help reduce platelet activation and relax blood vessels. Studies have shown that dark chocolate have more than double the amount of nutritional value than milk chocolate.

A great dark chocolate benefit is the one that help your heart.  Studies show it aids in lowering the bad cholesterol by ten percent. It also aids in lowering blood pressure for those with high blood pressure. And many people know that high cholesterol and high blood pressure increase the risk of heart disease and heart attacks. Studies on dark chocolate benefits have also shown that it helps balance out certain hormones that have a major effect on cardiovascular health.

Another dark chocolate benefit is the fact that it provides natural energy. Dark chocolate contains enough caffeine to give a natural energy boost, without the crash afterwards. Studies show that the amount of caffeine in chocolate allows a person to become more alert, but without the anxiety and jitters that drinks like coffee offers. Dark chocolate also contains serotonin which is a key ingredient in antidepressants that help beat ailments such as depression, making dark chocolate a natural mood booster.

In order to reap dark chocolate benefits it is suggested that people eat it in moderation and only the purist dork chocolate available.  It has also been proven that milk interferes with the body’s ability to absorb the antioxidants found in dark chocolate.  So drinking water instead of milk with dark chocolate is a safer bet. It doesn’t mean that people should just live off only dark chocolate for their health, they should couple it with a healthy diet and keep the balance of calories even.
